A couple from Manhattan fused local architecture with modern sensibilities to create this estate in Amagansett, N.Y. The property is on the market for $12.5 million.

The couple purchased the 3.6-acre property in 2006, and spent several years redeveloping it, which included tearing down the original structure. The 5,500-square-foot home was completed in 2012. Mr. Rosen estimates the total investment in the property at more than $10 million.

The couple wanted their home to fit in with the traditional houses in the area. At the same time, they wanted a more modern aesthetic. ‘We didn’t want to live in a barn – we wanted to have something more modernist,’ Mr. Rosen said.

The estate consists of three structures, including a central great room where people gather. The floors are polished concrete. The kitchen is stainless steel.
