Simon named the town of Cleveland, NM, where he opened a U.S. Post Office in 1892 and was the first postmaster. He and Theresa later moved to Wagonmound, NM, where Alan’s father Morris was born in 1907, and where Simon started a business and operated The Vorenberg Mercantile Company for many years (top photo was taken 4th of July, 1916, as the Independence Day parade was about to start!). Jacob opened The Vorenberg Hotel in Tucumcari, where he was in business for many years. Simon was a delegate from Mora County to the Constitutional Convention that was convened in Santa Fe in 1910 (shown above), as the Territory of New Mexico was becoming a U.S. State. The Vorenberg family is included in the Jewish Pioneers of New Mexico Exhibition at the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe. Alan’s father Morris and his wife Adele lived in Carlsbad, NM, where Morris was a stock broker, and where Alan and his sister Tresa were born.
