The current owners, husband-and-wife architect and designer, chose finishes and amenities that bring the past and present together with a focus on comfort, health, style, and historical integrity. The most recent renovations continue in the spirit of hand-built adobe homes by updating with materials and hand-crafted work from local New Mexico and California artisans as well as custom made pieces from Mexico, Italy, and Morocco. The 3100-square-foot adobe main house generously offers three bedrooms, four baths, and six kiva-style fireplaces.

Updated appliances include a Viking range, Bosch Dishwasher, LG Washer/Dryer and a 48-in. Miele fridge and freezer combination. The vigas are tree-ring dated to the 1830s and the ceilings are a mix of split cedar, aspen latillas, and beautifully coved plaster. The house has been updated with period-specific style Sierra Pacific windows. Recent updates incorporate earthen finishes including Moroccan zellige tile; clay aliz walls by local adobe master plaster artisan Carol Crews; tile work by noted Taos ceramicist Hank Saxe; and living room pavers handmade on site by Andrew Dasburg himself.

One bathroom includes a hammered copper bath custom-built in Mexico, and another includes a deep, Japanese style onsen soaking tub. Originally built in 1932 as Dasburg’s painting studio, the adobe guest house features large north-facing windows with tons of natural light. The guest house has one large bedroom, 1.5 baths, a full kitchen, new Sierra Pacific windows, two grand kiva fireplaces, and a unique layout that captures the creative spirit of the original studio. Additional features include a three-sided carport, a horse-shoe pit, an outdoor kiva fireplace, and a barn with ample room for a studio, workshop, or home for your burro and sheep.
