Property owners who want to rent out homes to vacationers in Santa Fe residential neighborhoods can apply for permits at the city Land Use Department.

The city is accepting applications for short-term rental permits through the close of business Feb. 6. A lottery will be conducted Feb. 13.

The City Council approved an ordinance Jan. 30, 2008, regulating short-term rentals of properties in residential areas. Short-term rentals are for terms of less than 30 days. Rentals for longer periods aren’t subject to the ordinance.

An application form for the lottery may be obtained at the Land Use Department or on the City web site. Key words are “short term rental.”
